INTRODUCED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
SYRACUSE COMMON COUNCIL ON
MONDAY, JUNE 5, 2000

RESOLUTION-RECOGNIZING SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 2000, AS GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL & TRANSGENDER PRIDE DAY
IN THE CITY OF SYRACUSE

WHEREAS, the Syracuse Common Council recognizes that prejudice,
intolerance, bigotry and discrimination threaten the rights of all citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Syracuse Common Council recognizes the right of all
citizens to be treated with equal dignity, value, worth, and that only through self-esteen can citizens reach the measure of their himanity; and

WHEREAS, the City of Syracuse has a Fair Practices Law that protects
individual rights from discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, public accommodations and housing; and

WHEREAS, increased awareness of the Fair Practices Law and recognition of the positive contributions made to society in all areas of human endeavor by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community has the power to enlighten
everyone, promoting understanding, tolerance and acceptance among all citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Twelfth Annual Parade and Second Annual Festival will be
held on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at 5 p.m.,

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved that the Syracuse Common Council proclaims June 17, 2000
as "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Day" in the City of Syracuse and encourages every citizen to become more aware of the values, contributions, and human rights of every citizen and the pride inherent in the lives of all people.
